		<description>My heater is Top Fin. On the back of the package, it will give you instructions on how to put it in the tank. Sure, you can put it near the filter, put it below it so its not touching and that way the filter will push out the heat to the whole tank. 

If you&#039;re worried about the turtles hitting it, you can get a part from a PVC pipe and drill holes in it and put the heater inside the pipe. The holes will get the heat out, and the turtles won&#039;t hit it. Don&#039;t put gravel on top of it, or else the heat won&#039;t distribute evenly. You shouldn&#039;t even have gravel in there, the turtles might swallow it, unless its big rocks they can&#039;t swallow.
